Hamilton East Public Library - Fishers
Hamilton East Public Library enlisted the services of KBA from 2015-2018 for a three phase project transforming their libraries to better serve the needs of their communities. Initially, building assessments were conducted, followed by an exploration of space layouts and initial budgeting. The next phase involved assisting with the evaluation and selection of an architect to oversee the necessary changes to the buildings. Finally, KBA led all interior design for the renovation of both locations. Also included in the engagement was the evaluation and acquisition of two 9-bin Automated Material Handling Systems.
At the Fishers, IN location a key focus was the Ignite Studio. Previously, housing a local business incubator, an additional 15,000 square feet in the lower level of the library became available once Launch Fishers vacated the space. During engagements with their community, many conversations came back to discovery, making and connecting the community with art and creativity leading to the development of an Art Studio and Makerspace. The space incorporates a Fab Lab, Kit Library, Makerspace, AV Studio, Digital Media Labs, and Maker in Residence and also has comfortable areas for collaboration. This art-focused makerspace provides a creative space for beginner, intermediate, and expert artists and makers. Numerous flexible classroom spaces and technical labs enable creation on all different forms.
Space and building updates were also completed on the main floor of the library. Efforts were made to convert some of the shelving and collection space to allow for more collaboration and workspaces. Flexibility was maintained through the use of mobile tables and reconfigurable seating.
Project completed under Kimberly Bolan and Associates and led by Rob Cullin and Kimberly Bolan Cullin.
